Gay rights: Is every country trying to show us up?

by Jul on September 25, 2008 · 2 comments

Okay, this is getting embarassing. There are many countries I’d like to think shouldn’t be passing us up on the equal rights laws, and I’ve been astonished as they have. I watched as South Africa passed us up – South Africa?

Well, now you can soon add a new one to the list of countries waving their gay flags a bit higher than we are…Australia.

According the 365gay.com, the Same-Sex Entitlements Bill just passed the lower house, and will:

“…remove discrimination against same-sex partners in areas such as immigration, taxation, veterans’pensions and aged care. It also abolishes discrimination against children of same-sex couples by granting equal rights to both parents.”

This is getting old..and just plain sad. On a happier note, I love kangaroos. So while I’m trying not to focus on the fact that my relationship doesn’t count for squat in the country I pay taxes to…I’m going to think of a beautiful Kangaroo hopping across the beach at sunset…wow, it’s like I’m really there…
