Grrlplanet house hunting.

Going from a loft to a nice little home in the city? We’re going to give it a try. We’ve been on the search for the perfect brownstone/brick home in a quaint little neighborhood, so that the dog can have a yard (or what others would call a 12×12 patch of grass), and we see yet another one this weekend. Above is one of the streets we’re looking at. Pretty “domestic,” eh?

What I’ve learned? That the less you have, the more people care that you’re gay. There was a time when I could barely scrape together rent…and got the “disgusted face” for the whole “gay thing,” that they tried not-so-obviously to ignore. Now that we live an admittedly decent life, they might think we’re terrible, but they kiss our ass. That goes for purchases, restaurants, or vacations too. I always wonder if their kindness is just to get my business, or if I’m just oh-so-charming as they make it seem. Sadly, I’m thinking the former.

Is there such a thing as “buying acceptance?” If so, I have mixed feelings about it….because I can’t stand entitled people, and I’m not sure I want to live among them. Then again, they’re not likely to rob me, or steal my car in the middle of the night.

We’ve gone back and forth…and have thought that maybe we’ll also start looking in more working class areas too. To be honest, they’re the people I like and relate to….and hey, if we end up moving there, it introduces them to some great neighbors – and gives us a too-good-to-be-true home price where I’ll basically gut it, and contract to have it be whatever I want.

Your thoughts?

ps. If I get the house in the “conservative” ‘hood….we’re sooo getting a stripper pole.

Neighbors are so important and I would really suggest that you don’t go with the conservative area – that’s no fun at all. BUT, if you get the stripper pole, I’ll come over with a casserole.

My thoughts? you should live in a queer neighborhood.

Years trying to live in peace with straight minded people went directly to hell when I had the experience of being 24/7 with queer people. I thought you should know it already. Why are you going to make such a huge effort? doesn’t worth it

Of course. But just in case you feel like choosing a conservative neighborhood, you can make an inauguration party with all your readers from grrlplanet. I’m pretty sure your neighbors will love the network and join the party
