An old white guy with a combover speaking about “the gays” is usually bad news. Just as it began looking like Vermont was going to join Mass and CT in offering same-sex marriage, a person like this has to go and ruin it. According to the Associated Press, Gov. Jim Douglas said he will veto same-sex marriage if it passes the legislature (which it’s looking like it might), saying in a news conference yesterday:
..the Republican governor said that he thought Vermont’s first-in-the-nation civil unions law, passed in 2000, provided sufficient rights to same-sex couples and that he believed “marriage should remain between a man and woman.”
“For those reasons and because I believe that by removing any uncertainty about my position we can move more quickly beyond this debate, I am announcing that I intend to veto this legislation when it reaches my desk.”

His veto won’t stand so don’t worry about it.
It’s my honest opinion that whenever anyone goes through that much trouble to stand in the way of gay rights, it’s due to a deep self-loathing due to a denial of their own gay tendencies that they most likely act out with prostitutes and then ask for forgiveness during their weekly fire insurance meeting (aka church).
