The next place legalizing same-sex marriage….

by Jul on August 22, 2008 · 3 comments

According to 365gay.com, the Coquille Indian Tribe of Oregon stated that they are legalizing same-sex marriage. Native American tribes are not bound by the Oregon constitutional ammendment, according to the Federal Indian Act. The story further stated:

Chief Ken Tanner tells The Oregonian newspaper that Native Americans are “sensitive to discrimination of any kind.” “For our tribe, we want people to walk in the shoes of other people and learn to respect differences. Through that, we think we build a stronger community.”

Tribal unions between same-sex couples are already in the planning stages…and will be recognized by California and Massachusetts….but not outside of tribal lands in their own state of Oregon.

Why are the Native American people are so fantastic? Though we white folks butchered and slaughtered them, gave them diseases and attempted to basically wipe them out of America, it’s these people who are the ones who reach out and make an attempt to understand others.

Go figure.

If you’re looking for a new vacation spot…here’s something to consider…yeah, it’s not a water park, or particularly luxurious, but you and your girl would at least would be respected for who you are.

My girlfriend’s from Oregon, unfortunately she’s just white… :-( … lol I’m going to make her read this when she gets home. She’ll be all full of Oregonian pride.
