people we heart

Recently, the owner of gayagenda.com heard Bubba the Love Sponge on the radio in Southern Florida, and had to call in. It seems that Bubba was using the word “fag” on the radio, and James thought he would set him straight…not in a mean way, but in an informative way, letting him know how that type of language is often used to justify violence, etc…

Bubba gives his resume of good deeds for the GLBT community, and he has a few for sure. But the most interesting thing to me, is that when James asked him whether or not he uses the “N-Word” on his show…they said it “isn’t the same thing.”

What do you think?

Props to James Hipps who, regardless of taking some verbal abuse and name-calling, still held respectfully and politely to his cause. You rock.

More Dudes should be Chicks.

by Jul on January 19, 2009 · 0 comments

If all men became chicks like this, I’d be far more into them.

This is Patricia Araujo, a transgendered Brazilian actress (now model) who closed the Fashion show in Rio on Jan 16th with a standing ovation, according to Philly.com. She was the show stopper to the main fashion event of the year.

Kudos to a country that is able to look beyond traditional gender classifications to celebrate beauty. This chick is drop-dead gorgeous.

Support Snowzilla!

by Jul on December 24, 2008 · 0 comments

There is so much controversy over so many things, that I thought this is a cause we can all get behind. Snowzilla is a 25 ft snowman that has been “mysteriously” showing up for the past 3 years in Alaska….and the town wants him gone. Why? two reasons: 1. Snowzilla slows traffic  2. Snowzilla might fall on someone when melting.

So, in the midst of all the craziness, take the time to stand behind some real holiday spirit. In support, many ask that you build your own Snowzilla. So go out there and have some fun with your girl this winter, build a snowman (or snowwoman) and have a blast….

Here’s a man, Billy Powers, who admits to building only the first Snowzilla…even though it has magically appeared in his yard the next two years. This video is short, but only a few seconds in, you’ll see how enormous this thing really is!

You Tube recently granted it’s Visionary Award to Queen Rania of Jordan, who is basically the hottest woman alive. She’s got it all – power (ranked one of the most powerful women in the world in 2005), sensitivity, intelligence, and she’s a fierce women’s rights advocate.

Grrlplanet congratulates Queen Rania for her YouTube award. According to Wikipedia, she basically started her own channel on YouTube, and posts daily videos speaking about various topics that relate to Arab or Islamic stereotypes and questions people have such as “honor killings” and the rights of Arab women. She’s involved in more organizations fighting poverty, etc..than I could list in one post.

So, we find it only in good taste that after working to end world poverty, and speaking on Arab stereotypes, that she should accept probably the most treasured award in her case…the hottest leader ever.

Yes, I’d do her. Even with the questionable taupe belt around her jacket and matching headband.

Japanese girls rock.

by Jul on November 25, 2008 · 0 comments

In a world filled with confusion, some things just make sense. Here is a picture of 16-year-old Eri Yoshida the Guardian.uk reports that she is the first woman EVER to play for the all male Japanese baseball. She was just drafted into the minor leagues, something no one ever saw coming…and she’s going to pitch.

I’m not saying she’s a lesbian, but it does seem that lesbians gravitate toward the softballish sports, am I right? So, while she’s a little young for me to say too much…on that 18th birthday, check back.

Okay, I was expecting to only write to tell you that they legalized same-sex marriage (which they did), but their stance is far more progressive than this – even recognizing the presence of transgendered and intersex people. From the Pink News, read this:

“The final judgment [of the highest court] was issued today.

It reiterates that all LGBTIs are defined as a “natural person” and their physical growth as well as sexual orientation, gender identity, expression are all part of natural growing process. Thus equal rights, identity and expression must be ensured regardless of their sex at birth.”

Cheers to Nepal.

Here are some members of Mitini, reported by the grace annual report to be the only lesbian group in Nepal – many of you risked your safety, some were abducted for your beliefs, but you all rock (especially the hottie in the top right corner):

I heart Miss America, Kate Shindle

by Jul on November 17, 2008 · 0 comments

I know what you’re thinking…here’s a post about the tight, wonderful bottom of (former) Miss America, or her still supple perky breasts…it is none of that. Why do I love this woman? For her mind.

Yes, I said it.

Guess who showed up at Proposition 8 protests in New York City? Miss America. As reported on 365gay.com, she stated “that she is straight and though she is conservative on many issues, she is on the right side of this one – we are on the right side – and we will lay down in the streets if we have to, in order to win our equal rights.”

So, Kate…though you protests are over for tonight…do you still want to do that “laying down on the streets” thing you referred to?

Along with all of the crap of Prop 8, there were some surprising people who came out against adding a ban to same-sex marriage, and according to On Top Magazine, one of those people was Steve Young, the legendary 49ers quarterback. So, going against both his conservative friends, and his Mormon church (the mormons donated 77% of all funds to the “Yes on 8″ campaign), the family of Steve Young stated:

“We believe ALL families matter and we do not believe in discrimination, therefore, our family will vote against Prop 8.”

Props to Steve and his family, for doing the right thing…despite the outcome.
